Local TTS 2.0.0

A complete rebuild into a private document reader and voice studio. Open a document, press play and follow along as each sentence is highlighted, or export it as an audiobook. Everything runs on your own computer. This version was released under the name Local TTS and set up from the source code.

New

  • Read PDF, Word, EPUB, Markdown and plain-text documents aloud, or paste text, with each sentence highlighted as it is spoken.
  • Playback starts in about a second, even for whole books, and picks up where you left off.
  • Move between chapters and pages, use keyboard shortcuts, and control playback from your lock screen.
  • Choose from 54 voices, with their language and quality shown, and compare them on the same passage.
  • Create your own voice from a short recording, with instant quality checks, a test before you keep it, and permanent deletion (optional voice-cloning engine).
  • Export a whole document or a range of chapters as WAV or MP3, as one file or one file per chapter with a playlist. Interrupted exports pick up where they stopped.
  • Settings for appearance and playback, installing or removing voice engines, seeing and clearing storage, and a summary of what stays private.
  • When the voice-cloning engine receives a security fix, it updates in place with one click.

Improved

  • Speech starts much faster, because the voice model stays loaded instead of starting again for every file.

Fixed

  • PDFs without a table of contents used to produce no audio and no error; text PDFs now always work, and scanned PDFs without text are reported clearly.

Security & reliability

  • Only your own computer can reach TTSNative unless you turn on network access, and other websites can't send it commands.
  • Documents are opened in a separate, time-limited process, so a damaged or malicious file can at most fail its own upload.
  • Voice model downloads come only from approved sources and are checked against published fingerprints before use.
